Boilers, also know as hydronic heating systems, come with many benefits.  They can, with proper maintenance easily last 15-20 years! That is double what a hot water tank will typically last.  Boilers have fewer moving parts that a furnace.  Fewer parts means less things to go wrong and fewer repairs. Boilers are also usually quieter than a furnace and because they don't have a fan they don't blow dust around your home like a furnace will, especially here in Alberta!  Boilers do not blow hot dry air into your home which can add to the already dry climate we have as well.  Now let's talk about maintenance.  This will help your boiler last a longer.

Boilers require annual maintenance.  Here a just few of items we check during annual boiler maintenance:

• Check and replace parts showing wear including gaskets
• Inspect Heat Exchanger
• Clean the burner
• Replace as needed the ignitor and flame rod
• Adjust combustion / check for proper draft readings
• Inspect electrical connections
• Clean condensate trap - condensate created by a Natural Gas boiler is corrosive
• Consider your water treatment plan.  Scale buildup in your boiler can reduce efficiency by 10-20%
